Mavericks team lists UNLEASHED!

Mavericks Ready to Take on the Premier Hockey League.

The Mavericks are set to hit the turf as both the men’s and women’s teams prepare for the inaugural Premier Hockey League (PHL), kicking off on 2nd November and wrapping up with an exciting finals weekend on 7th-8th December. Aotearoa’s elite domestic hockey competition is about to elevate the game, and the Mavericks are leading the charge!

Mavericks players are buzzing with excitement as they gear up for a season filled with talent, teamwork, and a whole lot of orange. Nic Woods, a returning player to the region, can’t wait to represent his home region. “I’m most excited about playing in front of family, friends, and our passionate local fan base,” he shared. “The PHL is a game-changer for hockey in New Zealand, giving players a platform to showcase their talent and inspiring the next generation.”

The women’s team is equally thrilled! Deanna Ritchie expressed her enthusiasm: “I’m really excited to work with an incredibly talented bunch of players and coaches. We have a great mix of experience and youth, and I can’t wait to see how we come together!” Fellow teammate Phoebe Steele echoed this sentiment, adding, “I hope the PHL showcases top hockey to the rest of New Zealand and demonstrates just how awesome the game is.”

On the men’s side, Tim Neild emphasised the importance of having a local high-performance hub in Hamilton. “For too long, athletes had to choose between work and hockey. The Mavericks are a stepping stone towards preparing for international play while staying connected to home.”

Mavericks Director Jon Tanner is equally excited about what lies ahead. “Our management team has worked incredibly hard to put these teams together in a short timeframe,” he said. “The PHL will amplify our game and provide the competitive level needed for aspiring Blacksticks players. Our vision is to grow hockey across our region, fostering collaboration, innovation, and excitement at all levels.”

With a mix of seasoned players and fresh talent, the Mavericks are ready to make their mark in the PHL. As they embark on this thrilling journey, one thing is clear: the Mavericks are not just playing for titles—they're playing for their community and the future of hockey in New Zealand.

So, mark your calendars and get ready to cheer for the Mavericks as they take the field bringing the orange heat! 🏑🔥
